Snow coats the Huttner Weather Lab at 1:30pm today.

They say all weather is local. Never is that more true than during March storms.

Blizzard conditions are raging, exactly as forecast, in the Red River Valley today. It's not often we see a civil emergency message issued from local NWS offices.

Snow totals range between 5" and 8" so far in much of the Red River Valley and northwest Minnesota.

Rain is now changing to snow in the metro, but it appears as we discussed yesterday the extra "rain time" this morning will reduce snow amounts accordingly in the metro.

The surface low sits near Rochester this afternoon. That's further west than the expected track. That will keep the heavy snow areas northwest of the metro.

Suffice to say expect some slick roads in the metro this afternoon, but nothing like the nightmare unfolding in northern Minnesota.
