Flood remains in forefront

Heavy rains once again doused portions of southeast Iowa and northwest Missouri in the past twenty-four hours. This additional runoff will eventually find its way into the Mississippi River and maintain high flows and water levels.

The initial crest had yet to reach St. Louis. More rainfall will bump the crest even higher, but flood control measures should minimize the impact. Navigation of barges on the Mighty Mississippi is likely to remain stymied for a while yet.

Forecast precipitation

Both Minneapolis and St. Paul airports recorded 90 degrees in the late afternoon Wednesday. This was the first 90 of the year and the warmest day since 91 on September 5th.

A rather strong weather system is likely to move through the region on Friday. Daytime temperatures should be in the 70s over the weekend.
