Suddenly spring

What a difference a week makes.

The weather maps have done a complete180.

What looked like winter now promises spring. A big "high amplitude" pattern that puts the Midwest under a warming ridge of high pressure promises lots of sunshine and warmer winds this week. When the jet stream takes big dips as it meanders from west to east we call it a high amplitude pattern. Last week we suffered under the trough. This week we're under the ridge. That's where spring is.

Look for temps to be 20 to 25 degrees warmer than last week. We'll see 60's with plenty of sun and wind on Tuesday. This will help dry out your now soggy lawn.

We're about 3 weeks behind last year for hitting our 1st 70 degree reading in the Twin Cities. Last year we hit 73 on March 25th.

Frost is leaving the ground quickly in the southern and northwest parts of the state. Some of your favorite birds will reappear this week.

Look for our first reports of ice out on some of the southern Minnesota lakes this week too.
