Paul Huttner and I have been engaging in weather lab lingo the past twenty four hours. The description of the event that will enfold before our eyes remains a work in progress.

Models are showing consistency in the strength and timing. The conundrum is the slight deviation between the track of the strong low pressure system and the vertical profile that will determine the precipitation type.

Our preliminary prediction puts the most likely area for heavy snow west of the Twin Cities. That would include cities like Willmar, New London and Alexandria. And look out Duluth. A Blizzard Watch has been issued for your area.

There appears to just enough warm air from the surface to five thousand feet to keep a cold rain falling on the Twin Cities Thursday night into Friday morning. A half inch of moisture accumulating as rain will cut the snow amounts significantly in Minneapolis and St. Paul as the storm churns through Iowa and southern Wisconsin.
