Bragging rights
Desiring the hearts of those Minnesotans longing for warmer temperatures, I can announce that a moderation is about to commence. We’ll gleefully watch the temperature steadily climb during the next 30 hours as milder air from the Plains displaces the very cold air.
Minnesota earned National bragging rights about the bitter cold with early morning temperatures dipping to 33 below zero at Big Fork and Waskish, just a few degrees colder than International Falls.
A winter season warm front will travel across the upper Midwest on Friday night and Saturday. Temperatures will rise above the thawing mark in southwest into central Minnesota on Saturday afternoon. Don’t get too giddy because another shot of chilly air will sweep through the state on Sunday night and President’s Day. Sub zero temperatures may greet you at daybreak on Tuesday.
Bragging rights for snowfall are duly deserved by our neighbors to the east. On Thursday a band of heavy snow set up from near LaCrosse to Oshkosh, where the snow accumulated up to nine inches around the Dells.

Residents of Madison will scream UNCLE on Sunday when another bout of potentially heavy snow adds to the already record total. The National Weather Service has posted a Winter Storm Watch for the area.
If traveling through southern Wisconsin on Sunday, be prepared for some nasty weather.
