Dress for the season

It’s that time of year when style and fashion trail behind warmth and comfort. Mittens, hat, scarves and layers define the wardrobe for enduring the elements.

The arrival of Old Man Winter was ushered in on brisk northwest winds. A coating of snowfall blanketed sections of northern Minnesota. Yes, arctic air has invaded the Great Lakes and it is not the time of year when it is quickly displaced. So equip yourselves with sweaters, top coats and worm woolen mittens. The extremities are the most vulnerable regions of the body, so by all means put on a hat.

Those of us who have gradually found that our scalp has pushed through the top of our hair line, duly prevent the lost of heat with a stocking hat, a ball cap, hood or a dressy bowler. I’m jealous, but mostly bewildered by the relatively large numbers that forgo a head covering even when the temperatures drop below the teens. Apparently vanity outweighs the risk of mussing a nicely coiffed hair style.

Don’t risk the chance for frost bite. When the temperatures drop, play it safe. Protect your feet, hands, head and ears.
