Why wouldn’t warnings be based on storms?
Yes it seems to be stating the obvious, but the NWS move to the new Storm-Based warning system on October 1st is designed to cut down on false alarms. The current county-based system can lead to a wider warning area, and leaves people wondering why there’s a warning for Bloomington when the storm is in Brooklyn Park. Both are in Hennepin county, but are miles apart.
Storms will rumble across Minnesota today bringing more much needed rainfall, and hopefully not too much sevre weather. But we will see quite a few “county-based” warnings today!
