Art Hounds: 1930s cabaret, Rana May, beauty in ruins

A local instrumental and vocal ensemble loaded with talent, a one-of-a-kind Minneapolis comedienne, and immaculately clear images of urban decay, all were on the Art Hounds radar this week.

It's the programming, but more importantly the players that make musician Rolf Erdahl want to attend The Ladyslipper Ensemble's "Classical Cabaret" concerts. The next one is May 25 at 3 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in St. Paul.

"If These Walls Could Talk" features photographs by Cameron Torgerud of abandoned buildings throughout the Midwest. Through May 31.

Minneapolis comic Maggie Faris is heralding a new, completely original voice in Twin Cities stand-up comedy -- Rana May. May's next appearance will be an open-mic brunch at Cause Spirits & Sound Bar in Minneapolis, Saturday, May 24, at noon.
