Minnesota Orchestra unveils classical season; Vanska to conduct six concerts

Just 10 days after reaching a settlement with musicians after a bitter 15-month lock out, the Minnesota Orchestra is today announcing its new season.

The concerts are unabashedly meant as crowd pleasers, with popular repertoire and visiting artists included. Of particular note are six concerts featuring former Music Director Osmo Vanska, who resigned in October, a year into the lockout.

The full season details are here:

Great, sure fire programming to hopefully inaguarte a new era. A spokesperson for the musicians of the Orchestra, Wendy Williams a horn player, suggested two things:to me on 1/23, that patrons communicate with the MOA BOARD over our insistence in replacing Michael Henson with a competent, cooperative CEO and that Osmo Vanska be rehired as music director.

    • akadams

(psst! George…Wendy’s a flute player. You might have been thinking of Ellen Smith. They’re both lovely people…)
      AMEN to the above.

  • Henson’s Gotta Go

There is a bit more…classical!…programming than one would have expected had Michael Henson designed it. Maybe that’s a good sign? *fingers crossed*

  • Roger Regor

WOW! Thanks for posting the schedule! Looks gr00vy.
