Minnesota Dance Theatre Board of Directors unanimously resigns

Just as Minnesota Dance Theatre is about to launch into its second weekend of performances at The Lab in Minneapolis, the MDT’s Board of Directors has announced it’s resigned.

In an announcement released Tuesday, the board stated that it was no longer able to serve the needs of the organization going forward.

“The organization remains solvent and critically successful.  We hope that the company and school will continue to succeed in the hands of a new board and the artistic director,” the announcement stated.

Minnesota Dance Theatre presents a concert this weekend featuring a troupe favorite – Rumblings – alongside a new collaborative work between Twin Cities choreographer/performer Dominique Serrand and MDT’s Artistic Director Lise Houlton.

A request for further explanation from the (now former) board went unanswered.

Later this evening MDT Artistic Director Lise Houlton, daughter of the company’s founder Loyce Houlton, responded to the board’s resignation with a statement that was equally vague.

With respect and gratitude I acknowledge the commitment of the recent board to the mission and vision of MDT and its school.

I continue to be excited and motivated by the artistic integrity and energy of the company dancers, our teachers dedicated to high quality dance training and the young aspiring Dancers journeying on a “path of excellence.” Many of us have sustained long, fulfilling careers in this organization.

Moving forward, we will focus on serving MDT’s legacy celebrating the remarkable achievement of our Nutcracker’s upcoming 50th landmark, alongside our adventures into the wide range of dance dialects for our dancers, company and school.

A request for further comment from Houlton went unanswered at the time of this writing.

Minnesota Dance Theatre and Dance Institute marked its 50th anniversary in 2012.
