What to sign up for while eating a Pronto Pup
I'm working on a project -- which is why I haven't posted in a while -- but I figured I'd inject a little State Fair flavor into On Campus.
Looks like the Minnesota Office of Higher Education's State Fair booth is holding a daily drawing for a $200 Minnesota College Savings Plan account.
Office officials cite an upcoming Journal of Family and Economic Issues paper, which they say suggests even a small savings account can inspire children to go after post-secondary education.
Funding is apparently coming from the state office (using non-tax administrative money) and the Minnesota Private College Council.
No, I don't think it's meant as a quick way for students to pay for frat bills or keggers.
The office is encouraging parents and grandparents to apply.
The daily drawing is at 5 p.m. in the education building, and a different official from education or government is supposed to do the honors each day.
