Provost says state aid cuts would hurt UMN faculty
University of Minnesota provost Tom Sullivan just offered the school's board of regents some insight on what cuts in state aid would mean for the faculty at the U.
Sullivan said 60 open positions in the College of Liberal Arts will go unfilled, 32 positions at the College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences will remain empty, and the faculty at the Carlson School of Management will drop from 111 to 90.
The U doesn't know exactly what its funding will be next year because of the budget impasse at the state Capitol, but officials are planning for a cut of about $71 million from this year's level.
