Bemidji prof to state politicians: Cuts are driving students away

How many students would leave?

Bemidji State English professor Brian Donovan tells visiting legislators that cuts to programs will cause students to go out of state for college — just as his son left Bemidji for the University of Wisconsin after Bemidji’s art program was reduced:

“That’s one thing we’re calling the brain drain,” he said.

At Minnesota State University Moorhead, students are delaying their graduation to take required courses such as business ethics because there aren’t enough faculty to meet the demand, said Ted Gracyk, chairman of the philosophy department.
