U of Minnesota asking state for $110 million for construction
Looks like the University of Minnesota will officially request almost $110 million from the state for various building projects -- pretty much the amount it wanted in December, the Minnesota Daily reports
Regents approved the amount at a regular meeting today.
It's asking the state for:
$51 million for a physics and nanotechnology building on the Twin Cities campus;
$7 million for an American Indian learning center in Duluth;
$3.9 million for repairs to the school’s Itasca research outpost in northern Minnesota;
$35 million to fix leaky roofs and replace out-of-code elevators around campus; and
$12.5 million to move several labs affected by construction of the Central Corridor transit line.
The bill faces opposition from Republican lawmakers, however, because they don’t want to borrow in the face of the state’s $6.2 billion budget deficit.
