At one college, the wooing does not end at recruitment

"If you decide to go to Bates, I'll be there with you through the whole process next year."

Martinez is one of two Bates officials who do multicultural admissions one year -- and then student transition the next. That allows the "swing deans" to help the very students they've recruited. It's part of a push by Bates to increase diversity.
