Ideas on narrowing the grad gap for minorities — 10 a.m

Check out MPR’s Midmorning program on a new report showing that minority students are not graduating college at the same rate as their classmates.

One of the guests is President William Flores of the University of Houston-Downtown, one of the institutions backing the DREAM Act, which I’ve discussed in an earlier post. It’s federal legislation that would offer legal status to more than a million undocumented students if they met conditions for study or military service.

    My daughter – a CIS student – and I talked about this editorial over breakfast this morning. She has already read many of the classics noted as “left out” by Bauerlein in the OTHER literature classes she has taken in high school (primarily IB and AP courses). The CIS course is doing exactly what it is supposed to do – enhancing and expanding the curriculum for these students.
