Popping bubble wrap sends students scurrying for cover

Acknowledging that authorities had little choice but to take the report of gunfire seriously, we are nonetheless forced to accept that we’ve entered a new era of fear in America when bubblewrap causes the lockdown of schools.

A student at Eastern University in Pennsylvania heard what she thought was gunfire and called 911. The school implemented its lockdown policy and everyone was urged to shelter in place. That’s the way it should work when a shooter is on the loose.

Someone was popping bubble wrap.

“Police report that one student indicated that the sound she heard could have been bubble wrap being popped,” a statement posted on the Facebook page of the adjacent Valley Forge Military Academy said.
