A setback for the Ice Man of Superior

Roger Hanson, the Big Lake, Minn., man who builds giant ice towers, is having a bit of a time in his second season in Superior, Wisc.

His not-yet-giant ice tower collapsed last February and the one he’s trying to build on Barker’s Island took a tumble yesterday morning too, he reports on Facebook.

Hanson, who started in the ice tower business outside his home every winter by spraying the water from his geothermal heating system, hopes to build a 75-foot-tall ice castle; that would be a record for him.

But he discovered last year that winters aren’t as long as they were in the old days — say 2013 or so.
