Eau Claire farmer finishes harvest of hope to fight cancer

Here’s your daily dose of sweetness.

Don Jaquish lost his wife, Babbette, to cancer last year.

She loved sunflowers, so on both sides of a four-and-a-half mile stretch of Wisconsin State Road 85 near Eau Claire this year, Jaquish planted sunflowers in her memory.

“We wanted it to be a statement of love,” her daughter, Jenny, told ABC News earlier this year.

Before she died, Babbette had the idea of planting sunflowers and then selling the seeds at the end of the year and using the proceeds to help people with cancer and fund cancer research.

This week, Don finished harvesting the last of the sunflowers, KARE 11’s Boyd Huppert reports.
