Real courage brings up the rear at Boston Marathon

Perhaps what separates — or at least used to separate — the Boston Marathon from every other big sporting event is that the best story usually isn’t who wins.

The humanity is back in the pack and there’s almost always a story at the very end of the pack.

Maickel Melamed, 39, finished the Marathon this morning a little before the sun came up. Keep in mind it started at noon yesterday.

Maickel has Muscular Dystrophy.

“I’m so late,” he told reporters who met him at the finish line.

Supporters walked with him the final distance in the pouring rain, chanting, “Yes, you can!”

And he did.
