The dumbest tradition in sports

If there is any justice in the world, the fans of the Chicago Cubs will never experience winning a pennant nor World Series. Never!

The fools created the worst “tradition” in the history of baseball and a play yesterday highlighted it.

An older gentleman makes a great catch on a homerun by Mark Reynolds of the Milwaukee Brewers.

MLB video grab.

Having gone to all of that trouble, and nearly falling out of Wrigley Field, he throws the ball back.

But Mike Pullin, of Rochelle, Illinois, didn’t throw the real ball back. He had one ready to go; one his dog played with. He threw that one back instead.

Keeping a baseball that goes into the stands is one of the great baseball traditions.

    • They do that in hockey as well, although you receive the puck after your stint in the ER…

And here it was I thought that tradition had started on the south side of Chicago.

  • I grew up a Cubs fan and I hate this tradition. Bringing a ball to throw back is brilliant.

    God bless you, Bob Collins.

I was at Wrigley on Friday. The guy who threw back the ball on that day had quite an arm – got the ball all the way to second base from the bleachers.
    And yes, rediculous tradition.
