The festivals of Minnesota

One of these days on NewsCut we’re going to have to have an NCAA-Tournament-style competition of summertime festivals.

When we do, remind me to include Pequot Lakes’ Bean Hole Days, which wrapped up yesterday, according to the Brainerd Dispatch.

There’s something oddly comforting about a town that will turn out in the middle of the week for the chance to eat a cup of beans that couldn’t possibly be properly cooked and delivered without the aid of a backhoe.

My personal favorite is the Askov Rutabaga Festival followed closely by the Uff Da parade in Wanamingo celebrating Syttende Mai. Love, love, love annual small town celebrations.

Also coming up: Sinclair Lewis Days in Sauk Centre. What could be more mainstream than Main Street?

I like this one as well. Probably because Sauk Centre is my hometown.

In addition to the proposed bracket (or rather – in advance of it) Does anyone know where one may be able to find a calendar of these events? I think it’s be fun to spend a summer seeing how many you could visit!
