After ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’ a kiss is just a kiss

So far, the only area of the military that seems to be affected by the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is the homecoming.

In December, two women made the news with the first lesbian kiss when a sailor’s ship pulled into port…

Over the weekend Sgt. Brandon Morgan and his partner Dalan Wells shared a welcome-home moment in Hawaii.

“I’m glad I can be an inspiration to someone,” Sgt. Morgan told a Florida blogger, about the image that went viral after it was posted on a Facebook page.

Photography is a visual medium, and an image evokes multiple levels of response.

    On the first, visceral level:

    Lesbian kiss- Hubba hubba.

    Male homosexual kiss – Yuck.

I’m not sure why I respond that way. Nature, nurture, both, neither.

On a deeper intellectual, philosophical and compassionate response level:

Love is the answer, and the more love that is expressed, that better off we are as individuals and as a species.

It took three deployments, four years, an Act of Congress, and two hunks to make that picture. I love the enormity of the flag and that no one in the picture is watching.
