Iowa native, Medal of Honor recipient, dies

An Iowa native and recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor has died.

John Baker, born in Davenport, died Friday at his home in South Carolina.

He was a larger-than-life soldier who, it turns out, was only 5’2.

Only 239 soldiers in Vietnam received the Medal of Honor.

“Only 239 soldiers in Vietnam received the Medal of Honor.”

Perhaps because it wasn’t a particularly honorable war?

Kudos to Mr. Baker for putting himself at risk to save his fellow men.

Interesting how his hero was infamous chicken hawk, John Wayne.

Almost nobody wanted to go to Viet Nam, but World War II ?!?
