Viral video of the day: The train

A question to consider while watching today’s viral video of the day: How has the Internet changed us?

A Network Rail spokesman in the UK said, “It doesn’t bear thinking about what would have happened if the turbulence created had swept the man’s coat up into the underside of the train. “Not only that but think about the effect on the train driver who believes he has just killed somebody.”

  • The guy is lucky that particular train did not have a cow catcher on the front. Lesson that should not need to be taught: Don’t lie down on train tracks.

I’d bet that people have done stupid stunts for as long as there have been people. Usually you did it in a location where a lot of people would be able to see it so you could have your Warholian 15 minutes of fame. (Usually as you were led of by the local constabulary. Often in handcuffs.)

With the Internet and the ability to shoot video with a cell phone and upload it in just a few minutes that means you can do stuff where no one can see you and still get your 15 minutes of fame. The difference between the guy in this clip and a Darwin Awards winner is a little luck and maybe a little planning.

Good observation, Jack. One time I played “astronaut” by assuming the “Mercury capsule” position in a tobogan before launching myself down hill. I hit a tree.
