Today’s the kind of day we need a Friday Funny [tm], so here it is. A Japanese musician is getting famous for playing alongside a Nintendo game.

And they say video games will rot your brain.

  • This is so great on so many levels.

First of all, you’ve got Koji Kondo’s brilliant composition, which sounds equally at home played by a violinist in coat and tails as it does chirped out of a bare-bones synthesizer chip.

Then some brilliant musicianship from the violinist, shifting between background and incidentals on the fly, coordinating with a “bandmate” using a videogame controller. Everything absolutely pitch perfect and right on time

tapping on the body of the violin to simulate the “Mario in Pipes” sound was a particularly nice touch.

I love this crazy future we all live in.
