Our own Euan Kerr reports mystery surrounds roots of the Macbeth curse. There’s the “Curse of the Pharaohs” which has given us so many books, movies, and an hour’s worth of In Search Of. The Chicago Cubs’ Curse (the billy goat backstory is fairly well-known) even has web sites listing out proof that it exists.

For News Cut discusion: Why do so many belief systems include the concept of a curse? How does one determine ill fortune has reached curse status? Do you believe in curses?

No curses (and no demons, no angels), but certainly things or people can be damaged or have a damaged reputation of a very long lasting nature.

Interesting spin on that, Jim. Do you ever refer to someone as (seemingly) cursed?

  • Jim!!!

I don’t think I’ve thought of anyone as cursed, though I have known people I consider poisonous :)
