A theme song for our show on women and the economy

Tomorrow, the White House hosts a forum on women and the economy, and we’ll devote the 10 a.m. hour to that subject. Earlier this week, Kerri tweeted:

Looking for some great songs about empowered women for Friday. Can u think of some??

Here are the suggestions from the audience:

Dar Williams’s “As Cool As I Am.”

Aretha Franklin’s “Respect.” This is not a great video; the aspect ratio is off. But she sounds great.

Loretta Lynn’s “The Pill.” No actual moving images in the video, but you can hear the music while staring at a magazine cover with Lynn’s photo.

Garbage’s “Supervixon.” Why are no videos of this available anywhere? You don’t even get to stare at an image of Shirley Manson in this one.

Chaka Khan’s “I’m Every Woman.” Great hair! Great outfits!

India Arie’s “I Choose.” This one features a montage of Arie glamour shots.

This one made a big impression on me.

That last link is fabulous! It’s the background music to my every feminist thought.

How about “I Am Woman” by Helen Reddy. It might be an old song but I think the lyrics are still relevant.
