Really? Reaction to St. Paul picked as top romantic city

Really? That’s how many Minnesotans responded as they took to Twitter Wednesday morning to poke fun at the news that St. Paul made it onto USA Today Travel's  list of the nation's top romantic cities.

Maybe the fact that we're the eye of the polar vortex accounts for the caustic comments and collective eye roll.

The contest’s description of St. Paul sort of takes a dim view of Minneapolis, calling St. Paul “more sophisticated.”

Here’s what USA Today Travel says about the city:

St. Paul is the smaller, quieter and, many say, the more sophisticated of the Twin Cities.  While not an obvious choice as a romantic getaway, couples love it for its diverse romantic offerings, like leisurely paddle- wheeler rides along the Mississippi, beer tastings, or ice skating. St. Paul also has a thriving performing arts scene.

The contest is part of USA Today Travel 10BEST lists. Voters have until Monday, Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. to cast their vote.

Winners will be announced on 10Best on January 29.
