Police: Be aware of surroundings after Kowalski’s carjackings

The St. Paul Police Department is still investigating two separate robberies in the parking lot of the Kowalski's on Grand Avenue.

Sgt. Paul Paulos says investigators are looking through surveillance tape to see if they can identify the suspect. In both cases, the victims were forced by gunpoint to drive to an ATM and withdraw cash for the suspect. One incident happened Sunday night and the other took place on the evening of June 8.

Paulos said the descriptions of the suspects are different in each case.

Police have stepped up patrols after the incidents, Paulos said.

Although robberies like this aren't common in St. Paul, Paulos recommended people take precautions and be aware of their surroundings.

"People need to be aware of it. Know what's coming and going," he said. "Not to be paranoid, but be cautious of your area. It's all you can do."
