Daily Digest: What happened to that special session?

Good morning, and welcome to Tuesday. We'll get to the presidential election, but let's start the Digest closer to home:

1. Gov. Mark Dayton and Republican House Speaker Kurt Daudt toured the state security hospital in St.Peter Monday. They agreed the facility needs upgrades, but they still have not reached a deal on an agenda for a special session to provide funding for the improvements. (KSTP TV)

2. A week from today, primary voters in Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District will decide who among a field of four Republicans moves on to the November election. There are four candidates running.  Jason Lewis has the Republican party endorsement, but Darlene Miller has the endorsement of incumbent Rep. John Kline, who will retire at the end of the year.  (MPR News)

3. Investor Warren Buffet went after Donald Trump on Monday for not releasing his tax returns and for misleading the public about his business record. Buffet spoke at a rally for Hillary Clinton in Omaha. He's the second billionaire in less than a week to attack Trump's business record. (New York Times)

4. Trump's campaign appealed to Republicans on Capitol Hill to stand behind him in his ongoing feud with the Khan family. It came after John McCain and the VFW condemned Trump for some of the comments he made after Khizr and Ghazala Khan first took the stage last week at the Democratic National Convention. They are the parents of an Army captain who was killed in Iraq in 2004. So far no Republican elected officials are defending Trump. (Reuters)

5. In an interview with Fox News over the weekend Hillary Clinton claimed that FBI Director James Comey said her answers about her private email system were "truthful" and "consistent with what she's told the American people." It's not the first time Clinton has said that, and it's not true. (NPR)
