Daily Digest: TGIF edition

Good morning and welcome to Friday, which some people say is the best day of the week. Here's the Digest.

1. House Speaker Kurt Daudt told a Fargo radio station Thursday that Donald Trump at the head of the GOP ticket is likely to help Republican legislative candidates in rural Minnesota. He called Hillary Clinton "incredibly unpopular" in rural districts and said Trump had "more room to grow" in terms of popularity than Clinton. At the same time he acknowledged Clinton does much better in the suburbs. (MPR News)

2. Some residents of a mobile home park in St. Anthony just outside of Minneapolis are trying to find a way to buy the land on which their trailers sit. It's the only way they can save their homes after the owner of the land decided to sell. Many of the trailers are too old to move, and if the park is sold for redevelopment people will lose their homes. (MPR News)

3. A Republican candidate for Minnesota House made some comments about her DFL opponent that are drawing criticism from the DFL Party. Ali Jimenez-Hopper, the Republican-endorsed candidate in House District 57A said of Democrat Erin Maye Quade, "She brings up that she is half black, and she uses that as a strength. She brings up that she is in support of LGBT and that lifestyle and she puts out pictures on Twitter of her and her wife.” Jimenez-Hopper later apologized to anyone who was offended by her comments. 4. President Obama endorsed Hillary Clinton, and it looked as if Bernie Sanders is getting ready to end his campaign. Obama and Clinton will campaign together in Green Bay next week. Obama's endorsement came shortly after he met with Sanders at the White House, and other prominent Democrats including Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden quickly followed. (Washington Post)

5. Donald Trump has been sued more than 3,500 times over the past three decades, often by people saying he failed to pay them money he owed.  Who sued? From the article: "A dishwasher in Florida. A glass company in New Jersey. A carpet company. A plumber. Painters. Forty-eight waiters. Dozens of bartenders and other hourly workers at his resorts and clubs, coast to coast. Real estate brokers who sold his properties. And, ironically, several law firms that once represented him in these suits and others." (USA Today)
