Daily Digest: Nurses walk out

Good morning and welcome to a post-Father's Day Monday. I hope you had a good weekend. Let's take a look at the Digest.

1. About 4,800 union nurses walked off the job Sunday morning at five Allina hospitals in the Twin Cities. The strike is expected to last a week, and health benefits are the main issue in the dispute. Allina has brought in nearly 1,500 replacement workers and says it will operate the facilities as normal. 2. Could Republican U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen really be in trouble? The 3rd District congressman has won by comfortable margins since he was first elected in 2010 to replace Jim Ramstad. This year he has drawn a tough opponent in state Sen. Terri Bonoff, DFL-Minnetonka. But the biggest factor working against him in his relatively moderate suburban district may be Donald Trump at the head of the GOP ticket. (Star Tribune)

3. One thing Paulsen isn't talking about is his vote to prevent debate on a bill designed to keep people on terrorism watch lists from buying guns. Neither are fellow Minnesota Republicans Tom Emmer and John Kline. Democrat Collin Peterson is talking. He says in his northwestern Minnesota district guns aren't a problem. And he says the debate represents a cultural divide. (Star Tribune)

4. Donald Trump said Sunday that he hates the concept of profiling, but that profiling Muslims in the U.S. is "common sense," and something we have to consider doing as a country. (Washington Post)

5. Hillary Clinton's staff has begun collecting information on as many as 10 possible running mates. One of the most important things they're looking for is an elusive quality: chemistry. (New York Times)
