Daily Digest: Results from Wisconsin

Good Wednesday morning. The Wisconsin primary is in the books, so let's take a look at the Digest.

1. Ted Cruz defeated Donald Trump in Wisconsin by a wide margin. Cruz called the win a "turning point," and hopes it will be the start of an effort to deny Trump the Republican nomination. Trump called Cruz a "Trojan Horse," and said Cruz was being used by party bosses to steal the nomination. (Washington Post)

2. On the Democratic side, Bernie Sanders scored a decisive win over Hillary Clinton, but Clinton still has an overall delegate lead. The Sanders team says neither candidate will have won enough delegates to clinch the nomination by July, and are talking about an open convention. (New York Times)

3. Republicans who control the Minnesota House are renewing their push for tax cuts, including a phase-out of taxes on Social Security income. Democrats say fully exempting Social Security would be too expensive, and there are cheaper ways to cut taxes for many seniors. If a deal emerges, and that's a big if, it probably won't be until the end of the session. (MPR News)

4. Leech Lake's Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig tribal school will get a nearly $12 million infusion of federal cash to replace a crumbling pole barn known locally as "Killer Hall." "We're ecstatic about the money," said Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig Superintendent Mary Trapp. "We've been waiting a long time for funding." (MPR News)

5. Essar Steel has failed to make a $10 million payment to the state. In all the company owes Minnesota $66 million. It has been struggling to pay contractors in northeastern Minnesota, and one official believes bankruptcy may be an option for the company's Minnesota operation. (Star Tribune)
