Daily Digest: And the winners are…

Good morning. The 2016 Iowa Caucuses are history, so let's take a look at what happened and what it all means.

1. Ted Cruz managed to do what the other candidates haven't--make Donald trump act nice. He did it by handily defeating Trump when most public opinion polls had shown Trump leading. And he did it the old fashioned way, by making sure his supporters actually turned out to caucus. (Des Moines Register)

2. On the Democratic side Hillary Clinton claimed victory, although the Bernie Sanders team was more accurate to call the results a virtual tie. It looks like Clinton may have won about 4 more delegates than Sanders. (Politico)

3. So how do things look now that Trump has lost? He may not be done yet. (New York Times)

4. Rarely has a third place finisher declared victory in the way Marco Rubio did. (Washington Post)

5. Here are six things to consider about what happened last night. (NPR)

So on to New Hampshire next week for more surprises or confirmation of the conventional wisdom. Or we could just wait to see what the voters do, because it's always interesting.
