The Daily Digest: Ready for a rematch

Good morning. Here are five politics stories to follow today.

1. Rematch.

If the names Mary Sawatzky, Patti Fritz and Zach Dorholt sound familiar, that's because they are. They are among DFLers who are challenging the Republicans who beat them in 2014 to a rematch in 2016. (MPR News)

2. Campo versus McNamara.

Just when this story couldn't get any more dramatic, Maryann Campo, a Minneapolis Parks Board lobbyist is suing GOP Rep. Denny McNamara for defamation. The suit stems from his claim that Campo threatened McNamara's son's business. The Pioneer Press has all the juicy details and good background on the issue. (The Pioneer Press)

3. Congress reacts to nuclear accord.

A nuclear deal with Iran heads to Congress, but Republicans are already vowing to kill the agreement. President Barack Obama has gone into full sales pitch mode, making the case for his agreement with Iran even to lawmakers from his own party. (The New York Times)

4. Planned Parenthood video.

You may have seen a video yesterday of a Planned Parenthood executive discussing how doctors performing abortions preserve fetuses, ostensibly for medical research. It's a confusing video (the restaurant where it was taped is so loud) and a complicated issue. Vox has a useful explainer. (Vox)

5. Reality check.

Thank goodness for the Wall Street Journal, which reminds us that exactly four years ago, former 6th Congressional District Rep. Michele Bachmann was leading the GOP pack for president in some polls - much like Donald Trump is today. You may also remember her lead didn't last long for a number of reasons.
