Dayton plans low-key inauguration
GQ and Vogue would be so disappointed.
Gov. Dayton is planning a laid-back inauguration that ditches the glitz of cocktail dresses and tuxedos in favor of an event that allows attendees to wear blue jeans and flannel.
Dayton today announced the details of his inauguration and the festivities around the beginning of his second term next week.
He's scheduled to be sworn in at an event at St. Paul’s Landmark Center at noon on Monday. He’ll be joined by Lt. Gov.-elect Tina Smith, who is taking the oath of office for the first time.

Attorney General Lori Swanson, Auditor Rebecca Otto and Secretary of State-elect Steve Simon will also be sworn in at the event. All of them are Democrats.
The ceremony is free and open to the public, but Dayton's spokespeople say seating is limited.
Dayton will also hold an inauguration party on Saturday, Jan. 10 at St. Paul's Union Depot. Tickets for the "North Star Ball" range from $15-$35. Attendees will be served appetizers and drinks. They're also being told that they can wear anything from blue jeans to black tie.
This year’s inaugural festivities are a bit more muted than Dayton’s inaugural in 2011 where he held several smaller events across the state.
Dayton’s inauguration happens one day before state lawmakers start the 2015 legislative session.
