Minnesota Chamber of Commerce PAC backs Johnson

The political action committee of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce has endorsed Republican Jeff Johnson for governor over DFL Gov. Mark Dayton.

“We believe Jeff Johnson is the candidate who best represents the Minnesota Chamber’s pro-business, pro-jobs agenda,” said Bill Blazar, interim president of the Minnesota Chamber and PAC treasurer. “His commitment to making sure we have a competitive state economy will mean better opportunities and a better quality of life for all Minnesotans.”

Dayton and Johnson both sought the endorsement and were interviewed by the PAC's board. But Blazer said the PAC believed Johnson’s leadership on education and tax policy will ensure the competitiveness of Minnesota in a global economy well into the future.

“We are grateful for the governor’s interest in meeting with us to discuss his record over the past four years and his vision for the state. However, enacting some of the highest tax rates in the nation, and increasing labor mandates and regulations on employers seriously inhibits their ability to succeed and compete regionally and globally,” Blazar said.

In 2010 the chamber PAC endorsed Republican Tom Emmer over Dayton.

The Chamber of Commerce represents 2,300 businesses across the state.
