Stomach surgery halts Johnson’s campaign for governor
Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson, the Republican-endorsed candidate for governor, is recovering today after surgery to repair what a spokesman called "a small perforation" in his stomach.
Johnson went to urgent care this morning with abdominal pain, according to a campaign news release. He underwent surgery at Maple Grove Hospital.
Johnson was resting, campaign advisor Gregg Peppin said.
“The pre-surgery indications were that it was nothing that was serious,” Peppin said.
Peppin said Johnson’s public schedule will be affected for at least a couple of days. He said the campaign will provide updates when more information is available.
Johnson is running in a four-way primary contest on Aug. 12.
