McFadden campaign manager steps aside

WASHINGTON - The campaign manager who engineered Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike McFadden's surprise endorsement by the Minnesota GOP is stepping aside and will take a diminished role in the campaign.

Brad Herold confirmed to MPR News that he is becoming a senior adviser to the McFadden campaign. A campaign spokesman said the reshuffle was planned and that an announcement about the new campaign manager would be made within the coming days.

McFadden, a former investment banker and first-time candidate, hopes to take on Sen. Al Franken in November. However, before he can face the incumbent DFLer he must get through an August primary challenge from fellow Republican Jim Abeler, a former state lawmaker.

Herold, who's from Florida, first started working for McFadden in September of 2013. The McFadden campaign is Herold's first political gig outside of Florida for the political operative.
