District is expected to be the most competitive congressional match-up in the state in the upcoming round of mid-term elections. Republican businessman Stewart Mills, whose family owns the Mills Fleet Farm chain, hopes to run against Nolan in November and has all but locked up the GOP slot on the ticket.
According to Federal Election Commission filings, Nolan had $315,000 in campaign cash as of Dec. 31, 2013, slightly more than Mills’ $306,000.
Nolan’s communications director, Steve Johnson, says Killian will start his campaign manager job on April 1. Killian works as a lobbyist for the Minnesota Association of Professional Employees. He ran unsuccessfully for city council in Minneapolis in 2013,
Mike Misterek, who ran Nolan's 2012 campaign and later became Nolan's congressional chief of staff, is no longer working for Nolan.
