Bachmann to receive anti-abortion award, speak at Oxford Union
WASHINGTON - She may be retiring but Michele Bachmann isn't fading away.
Just last weekend, the 6th District Republican delivered a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference that was highly critical of former Secretary of State and likely presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. This Wednesday, Bachmann will be feted by leaders of the influential anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List during an event in Washington that will be headlined by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
Then on Friday, Bachmann will travel to the United Kingdom where she will speak at the Oxford Union debating society to deliver a speech about "the bureaucratic impulse to control innovation and how to create an environment that fosters growth and innovation rather than limits it."
According to the Union's website, other famous speakers have ranged from British Prime Ministers to former U.S. Presidents Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan to pop stars Michael Jackson and Jon Bon Jovi.
Bachmann announced last year that she would not seek another term in her district following a series of federal probes into her unsuccessful presidential campaign. Beyond her speaking engagements, the remnants of Bachmann's political operation have recently stirred to life. Bachmann's political action committee, which can spend money on political projects not associated with running for office, recently sent out its first fundraising appeal in more than six months and sent out an email questionnaire that's typically used to prospect for new names to add to a campaign's list of supporters.
