Minnesota House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, is facing a challenge for the Republican endorsement in district 31A .

Oak Grove Mayor Mark Korin said today that he has filed the campaign paperwork and will seek the GOP endorsement. Korin is serving his fourth year as mayor of Oak Grove and runs an engineering and manufacturing company in Ramsey.

Daudt, who is serving his second term in the House, angered some local Republicans by not disclosing a run-in he had with police in Montana last year. But he was able to head off a planned no confidence vote last month after a meeting with district GOP leaders.

Korin said he’s dissatisfied with the way Daudt represents the district.

“I believe that there needs to be new communications skills, new background that allows for fresh new ideas and thought into what happens at the Capitol,” Korin said. “I’m sick of our party being in the minority, and I think that there’s a lot of people that want new direction and want a voice that’s going to speak up for the silent majority and grassroots."

Korin said he will drop out of the race if he does not receive the GOP endorsement.
