Ortman to abide by GOP Senate endorsement
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Julianne Ortman said today that she will drop out of the race if she fails to win the party endorsement.
Ortman is among the GOP hopefuls trying to unseat incumbent Democratic Sen. Al Franken this fall. Republicans will endorse a candidate at their state convention in May. Ortman said she intends to abide by that endorsement and wants other candidates to do the same.
“I challenge any serious candidate who would run with the Republican brand and banner to respect the work of these activists and abide by their endorsement,” Ortman said. “I also urge party and community leaders to do all in their power to work to unite our party from one end of the political spectrum to the other without delay– we have mutual goals that we must accomplish, including the urgent goal of removing Al Franken from office on November 4, 2014.”
St. Louis County Commissioner Chris Dahlberg has also said he will abide by the party endorsement. State Rep. Jim Abeler and businessman Mike McFadden have indicated that they’ll run in the August GOP primary.
