DFL Raises more than $3 million in 2013
The Minnesota DFL Party says it raised $3.2 million in 2013 and ended the year with nearly $289,000 on hand.
Party officials say they are in good shape going into the midterm elections to help re-elect Sen. Al Franken, Gov. Mark Dayton and the DFL majority in the state House.
“Thanks to the support of donors across the state the Minnesota DFL is in one of its strongest positions ever heading into an election year,” DFL Chair Ken Martin said in a statement. “Being on a solid financial ground allows the DFL to build the infrastructure needed to provide critical resources to our candidates up and down the ballot in 2014."
The Republican Party of Minnesota raised $2.5 million in 2013, but the party still has a debt of more than $1 million.
When the GOP released its fundraising numbers last week Republican Party Treasurer Bron Scherer said a “a relatively small portion” of the party’s total debt as of the end of 2013 is due and payable before Election Day or throughout 2014.
The state GOP ended 2013 with $90,000 in the bank.
