State Sen. Pederson joins CD 6 race

Another candidate has joined the race for Congress in the 6th congressional district.

Republican State Sen. John Pederson formally announced his candidacy today in St. Cloud.

"I have very strong beliefs about the future of our country," Pederson said. "I believe that I have the qualifications that will enable me to effectively represent the interests of the people in the 6th Congressional District. I will uphold our country's values -- values that are spelled out clearly in our Constitution."

Pederson is a former St. Cloud City Council member and currently runs a manufacturing business called Amcon Block and Precast.

Former gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer and Anoka County Commissioner Rhonda Sivarajah have formally announced their candidacy as Republicans. Environmental activist Judy Adams is running for the seat as a DFLer.

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann announced in May that she would not seek re-election to the 6th District seat next year.

State. Sen. Michelle Fischbach and former state Rep. King Banaian were both at the Pederson announcement and say they back his campaign.
