First GOP gubernatorial forum scheduled for August

A gubernatorial forum featuring the Republican candidates for governor has been slated for August 1. The event, which is hosted by the MNGOP Senate Districts 31, 35, 36 and 37, will feature state Sen. Dave Thompson of Lakeville, Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson, Orono-based businessman Scott Honour and state Rep. Kurt Zellers of Maple Grove.

Johnson, Honour and Thompson all say they’ll attend the event. Zellers has not committed as to whether he’ll attend the forum or not.

All four Republicans are gearing up to challenge Gov. Dayton in the general election. State Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen, R-Alexandria,  and state Sen. Julie Rosen, R-Fairmont, are also considering a run for governor.

Dayton does not have anyone challenging him for the DFL nomination.
