Paulsen gets a temporary promotion
WASHINGTON - Erik Paulsen's rapid rise on Capitol Hill continued Thursday after the two-term Republican Congressman was appointed the temporary chairman of a subcommittee on the House Ways and Means Committee.
Paulsen will take the helm of the Human Resources Subcommittee, which has oversight over welfare and unemployment programs, after the sudden resignation of the committee's chairman, U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis (R-KY), earlier this week.
After serving just one term, Paulsen snagged a highly-coveted seat on Ways and Means at the beginning of this Congress in January 2011. It's considered a plum assignment because of the committee's jurisdiction over the tax code.
"I appreciate that he has agreed to lead the subcommittee for the remainder of the year, and I am confident that he will do a terrific job in his new role," said Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI).
