Minneapolis on list for 2012 DNC Convention

The Democratic National Committee announced today that Minneapolis is one of four finalists for the 2012 DNC convention. The other cities are Charlotte, Cleveland and St. Louis.

St. Paul was the host to the 2008 Republican National Convention. The DNC was also considering the site in 2008 but the RNC picked first.

Minneapolis Mayor RT Rybak says the event could bring jobs and millions of dollars to the city.

"It also is especially important to have a convention for the reelection of a sitting president of whatever party," Rybak said. "There's less focus on horse trading and more focus on the parties, the hospitality and the things that generate the real money back to the area."

Rybak says a site selection committee will visit Minneapolis on July 18th. He plans to show them attractions like a Minnesota Twins game. He will also showcase the state's transit system.
