Pawlenty to veto bonding bill

Gov. Pawlenty sent a letter to state lawmakers tonight telling them he plans on vetoing the $1 billion bonding bill. He sent the letter before the House and Senate started debating the bill.

"The people of Minnesota expect us to spend our tax dollars frugally and wisely. This bill does neither," Pawlenty wrote in the letter.

Pawlenty and his spokesman didn't specify if they would veto the entire bill or line-item projects from the bill until this point.

House and Senate negotiators agreed to a $1 billion bonding bill early this morning.

The House is debating the bill right now.

The House passed the bill 85-46. The Senate passed the bill 47-19.
